Attic window open on the night
a dim wash of light
as hinges creak
From the page, I raise my pen
is that your laugh, your voice I hear
blowing through the years
Is it you, is it real
or a song of the wind
it is you, is it real
I’m never sure
I see the miles of white tiles
that infinite airport floor
where you left me statuesque
our future time without a date
that never came
The shredding of our story
lost, somewhere in the night
amidst the terminal and the air
somehow I wanted to imagine more
that never was
Is it you, is it real
or a song of the wind
it is you, is it real
well, I never know
I checked my post
fifteen times this week
was that you I heard
addressing me with a howl
or a song of the wind
the only tune I hear these days
Thank you for the kisses
the love and warmth you brought
all the jokes we shared
and your fingers in my beard
how could I forget
It’s you, it’s you
a song of the wind
always it’s you
such a sweet melody to have known
And on the wind
I hope your memory
will always blow
beside meโฆ

Thanks for reading or listening.
The lovely guitar accompaniment was written and performed by Sirishty Thakur who writes wonderfully on her blog ‘Thought Loop‘. Please do check out her work!

I really enjoyed this, particularly these few lines: I see the miles of white tiles
that infinite airport floor
where you left me statuesque
our future time without a date
that never came

Thanks so much. I always forget how much fun reading the poems aloud can be – I have promised myself to do it more often. Thanks for your encouragement!

You’re welcome again. I agree. All writing is supposed to be told aloud. It started with oral expression. You’re one of the best readers out there and writers. You really show the power of the craft. Much success with your process in the future!

Genuinely not trying to be a creeper, but I find your reading voice so soothing my friend.
That and your words are a killer combo ๐๐ค

Haha, creep away, please. Thank you so much for listening. I got into writing because I loved the words I heard coming from the mouths of the singers I admired. So, thinking anyone enjoys hearing me say my words… well, that’s about as good as it gets for me. ๐

Aw, well I am so glad you did!
Your tone of voice just compliments your words so well. Some folks were made to read aloud – and you’re definitely one of them! ๐๐ค

Apologies to anyone who is listening to the audio while reading the words… I read the poem directly from the notebook I’d originally written it into and now I see that I’d tweaked the words a bit before posting it on WordPress. Hope it’s didn’t twist your melon too savagely.

The tweaks were of no import as far as enjoyment goes. I loved the guitar accompaniment, perfection!

Thanks Peter! The guitar was really great. I’d heard Sirishty play some guitar on Instagram and asked her if she could send me a sample to recite a poem over. She created this late last year and I finally got chance to set it to some words yesterday. I wish I had her skills and could set all my words to music, but for now, I’ll settle for the occasional link up.
