Waiting for a friend
sipping tea, sunglasses on
passers-by double and disappear
as reflections in shop windows
everything lit golden
then dimmed behind my lenses
I stir the drink some more
Waiting for a friend
theyβre half an hour late now
I barely notice
just watch the people
let my mind wander
the liquid turning in the cup
And it hits me, squarely, there
on the corner by the crossroads
these moments
left to my own devices
find me so contented
thinking, writing, dreaming
drawing, planning, scheming
Have I just mastered the art
of how to be alone
or am I just happy
Maybe…
Iβm just truly happy
finally…

Thanks Frances and so sorry I missed your comment back in 2019. How rude of me! Oops! I hope you’re doing well all this time later.

People watching and dreaming up their stories is not so easy when everyone’s wearing a face mask and ‘just sitting’ anywhere is likely to get you moved on.
Just sayin’ π

You’re right! I miss those moments. This was written back in the good ol’ days before we were all walking viral machine guns π¦

And thank you! I can’t wait to get back to those little moments of happy solitude, people watching and dreaming up poems for them all.

Thank you Sam! Much appreciated. Yes, those little moments of joy are precious and to be celebrated as much as the bigger ones, in my opinion. I hope you find one today. π Thanks for reading and commenting.
